Description: SAP-022 is a deposit of anomalous biomass located approximately 700' underneath the surface of Earth's moon1. This biomass appears abnormal not only due to its placement on the lunar body, but due to its unconventional metabolism and properties.
The object's most dense components, according to seismological surveys, appear to measure approximately 320' in total length. SAP-022 resembles a large reptilian (or possibly amphibian) corpse of unknown origin. Defining traits include a skull similar to that of a Diplocaulus2 specimen, gripping pads on the limbs, and a large row of (presumably) keratinized spines down the back. SAP-022 appears to be in a coma-like state; its tissue contains an endosymbiotic3 bacteria that performs anaerobic chemosynthesis4. Additionally, the tissue and musculature of the body appears to undergo necrosis at anomalously slow rate. This is theorized to result from a lack of infectious disease present in the lunar region, but also due to the abilities of the entity.
The biological mass comprising SAP-022 hosts a vast intelligence network capable of performing SAP-005 (PSI) activities. One such ability is true psychokinesis, which the consciousness inside the body uses to repair its organs while they are continuously damaged by the harsh environmental radiation. Such bodily degradation, when combined with SAP-022's immensely complex immune system5, creates a "necrovital equilibrium" that manages to keep the creature alive. The primary areas being serviced include the brain and notochord6. The current state of SAP-022 does not allow for any activities that would strain the already damaged biological network; the entity's survival depends on the conservation of energy, which is only to be used for necessary tasks.
SAP-022's PSI abilities appear to include all known variations. The entity has only weak psychokinesis (relative to other multupotent entities) and appears a strong, proficient, and fluent telepath. However, SAP-022 excels in its psychic abilities, being able to obtain and process the continuous thoughts of the entire human population. Unlike similar beings, its humbled physical state means that its mind must operate on a "lower level" more similar to, but still exceeding, that of a baseline human or other generic sophont. SAP-022 is able to telepathically communicate with astronauts on the International Space Station when in proximity to the moon. It may also alter their emotions, but in order for the entity to directly control them, they must be within a range of 10 miles to 15 miles from the spinal cord or brain of the decaying biomass.
It appears that a collection of other lunar anomalies7, referred to collectively as the "lunar community", have also taken notice of SAP-022's presence. The anomaly's existence has enabled Repository researchers to discover a new PSI-related phenomenon in which "weaker" PSI-capable individuals aggregate around more powerful or "potent" entities, both physically and through telepathic and psychic interaction. This trend has been termed Psychic Accretion. This does not occur because the more potent consciousnesses attract weaker ones to their "orbit" via telepathic emissions, instead, the accretion takes place because less-capable individuals sense SAP-022 via psychic abilities and congregate around it. It is unknown if this is because of an undiscovered facet of SAP-005 interaction, or if it is simply due to the fact that most sophonts are social in nature.
SAP-022, and by extension the moon as whole, may act as a "beacon" or "lighthouse" that psychological entities may flock towards. These may be extraterrestrial in or possibly extra-universal in origin, but numerous instances also have been documented as partaking in Earth's terrestrial affairs. This rich diversity of beings and entities present as the site has made the area surrounding the SAP-022 crater an intelligence hub for the lunar community. It has even been indicated that SAP-022 may act as a point of reference or "landmark" for alien navigators and galactic nomads.
Aftermath Protocols: Repository astronauts are to be stationed at a series of lunar bases forming a perimeter around the crater where SAP-022 is located (outside of its field of influence). These bases may also be used to research other facets of the lunar community in general.
